چکیده

Characterization of a digitized image is often required in nondestructive evaluation. Apart from the existing image processing techniques, a recent method to analyze and quantify complex images has been developed based on the fractal theory. As reported, it is possible to get salient information from any digitized image by evaluating the fractal dimension, the defining characteristic of a fractal. In the present work fractal analysis is performed on digitized images obtained from of domains having inserts. The data, digitized by a digitizer board, is obtained from the image of the domain grabbed by a CCD camera. Analysis is performed to compute the fractal dimension of a digitized image, which represents the quality of the image in a quantitative sense. The results show that the fractal dimension is not only sensitive to the presence of a different region (insert) in an image, but is also sensitive to the relative position of the insert in the domain.

Relevance of multifractal Textures in Static Images

In the latest years, multifractal analysis has been applied to image analysis. The multifractal framework takes advantage of multiscaling properties of images to decompose them as a collection of different fractal components, each one associated to a singularity exponent (an exponent characterizing the way in which that part of the image evolves under changes in scale). One of those components,...

Fractal signature and lacunarity in the measurement of the texture of trabecular bone in clinical CT images.

Fractal analysis is a method of characterizing complex shapes such as the trabecular structure of bone. Numerous algorithms for estimating fractal dimension have been described, but the Fourier power spectrum method is particularly applicable to self-affine fractals, and facilitates corrections for the effects of noise and blurring in an image. We found that it provided accurate estimates of fr...

Similarity and Aanity Hashing: a Computer Vision Solution to the Inverse Problem of Linear Fractals

The diicult task of nding a recurrent representation of an input shape is called the inverse problem of fractal geometry. Previous attempts at solving this problem have applied techniques from numerical minimization, heuristic search and image compression. The most appropriate domain from which to attack this problem is not numerical analysis nor signal processing, but model-based computer visi...

Tissue Image Classification Using Multi-Fractal Spectra

Tissue image classification is a challenging problem due to the fact that the images contain highly irregular shapes in complex spatial arrangement. The multi-fractal formalism has been found useful in characterizing the intensity distribution present in such images, as it can effectively resolve local densities and also represent various structures present in the image. This paper presents a d...

Measurements of digitized objects with fuzzy borders in 2D and 3D

The results of our investigation of several measurements on digitized 2D and 3D objects with fuzzy borders are presented. The performance of surface area, volume, and roundness measure estimators for digitized balls with fuzzy borders is analyzed. The method we suggest provides significant improvement in precision, compared to analogous estimation results obtained on a crisp (hard) segmentation...
